7 Quotes to Build a Life of No Regrets

If you have read any of my books in the ‘Is This Seat Taken?’ book series, you’ll know I’m passionate about the wisdom offered from others. These tidbits can be from my parents, other authors, business executives, poets, and even ‘every day people’.  I hope these 7 quotations will give you ’cause for pause’….and perhaps a renewed perspective!

  1. “Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.”  – Andre Gide

Often our greatest experiences lie just over the horizon. Yet, in order for us to have them – we have to be brave. We have to have courage to go outside our comfort zones and create the life we want. Is it easy? No. Is it worth it? ABSOLUTELY.

      2. “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” – Mahatma Gandhi

I have always admired Gandhi. There is congruency in his life and through his contribution on earth. I relate his definition of ‘happiness’ with my definition of ‘alignment’. Alignment is when you love what you do, you are good at it, and most importantly it is tied to something much greater than yourself. And when our values, desires, strengths, goals and intentions are aligned – we are most definitely at our most powerful.

    3. “Now is the only time we have.” – Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

A lot has been written about being present in the moment – in fact both my books hinge on this philosophy. And of course, Eckhart Tolle made ‘The Power of Now’ a familiar title and belief system. Net: we only have the moment we are in – that is truly it. Sure – we need to reflect on the past so we can learn….and we need to keep the future in mind so we can plan….yet the PRESENT is the only time in which we create our lives. Period.

   4. “Not in his goals, but in his transitions, man is great.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

How many of us face transitions in our life? EVERYONE. This could be death of loved ones, This could loss of job or the building of a new career. This could be a shift in values, perspectives, and the way in which we make meaning in the world and in our lives. Transitions are the richest times in life for GROWTH. My momma used to say: ‘stretch and grow’….and when we are facing transitions  – this is when we face our steepest learning curves. Yet….what an opportunity to expand our perspectives, our levels of contributions, and our lives.

   5. “It is choice, not chance, that determines your destiny.” – Jean Nidetch

Choice is within and available to each of us. We have the ability to CHOOSE what, when, how, why, and even IF! In fact – by ‘not choosing’ – we are choosing. Years ago I was taught: we have control over 3 things in life – and really only 3 things: Our Attitudes, Our Behaviors, and Our Choices. What will you choose?

  6. “The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.” – Jiddu Krishnamurti

Net: I believe we are here for a few primary reasons. We are here to LEARN from one another. We are here to TEACH one another. And we are here to SERVE one another. ALL these are glued together with LOVE.  Embrace the lessons. Give lessons. Feed your soul through service….it simply does not get better than that.

  7. “What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly.” Richard Bach

There are times in our lives when we think ‘this is not good’. We are facing fear, loss, catastrophic situations…..and our future is unknown and undetermined. Yet, what I have realized  – when the worst situations have happened in my life – the most beautiful experiences have evolved. Without exception.
