The Is This Seat Taken?® Trilogy

The Stories That Inspired the Philosophy Behind Alignment at Work®

Long before Alignment at Work® became a philosophy and methodology, it began as a series of observations.

Throughout my executive career—and later as an entrepreneur, advisor, and leadership strategist—I became fascinated by the people, relationships, and seemingly ordinary moments that quietly shape our lives. I came to believe that every conversation, every challenge, every unexpected encounter, and every "seat" we find ourselves in has something to teach us, if we are willing to pay attention.

That realization became the inspiration for the Is This Seat Taken?® trilogy.

While often described as collections of stories, these books are, in many ways, the narrative foundation of what would later become Alignment at Work®. Together they explore the questions that have guided my life's work:

  • How do we define success on our own terms?
  • How do life's experiences shape who we become?
  • What can ordinary moments teach us about extraordinary leadership?
  • How do we remain true to ourselves while making our greatest contribution?

Alignment begins within.

The stories remind us that leadership is not formed only in boardrooms or classrooms. It is formed through our choices, our relationships, our setbacks, our triumphs, and our willingness to remain present to the lessons life places before us.

Today, the Alignment at Work® philosophy provides the language and framework for these ideas. The books tell the stories that first revealed them.

I invite you to take a seat.
You may discover that one of these stories was saved just for you.

If the books explore why our lives unfold as they do, Alignment at Work® provides the practical framework for intentionally shaping what comes next.
