There is a very insightful book entitled “Think Like Zuck: The Five Business Secrets of Facebook’s Improbably Brilliant CEO Mark Zuckerberg“. It is hard to imagine that if Facebook were a country, it would be the third largest in the world!! Facebook accounts for one of every seven minutes spent online, and more than one billion pieces of content are shared on Facebook. Those numbers are mind boggling.
Let’s face it, Facebook has changed our world; and this was the brainchild of one, young entrepreneur. Literally, Facebook has single-handedly revolutionized the way more than one-seventh of the world’s population communicates, engages, and consumes information. What can we learn from this organization and from its leader?
Social business trailblazer Ekaterina Walter examines the five principles behind Facebook’s meteoric rise, presented in actionable lessons anyone can apply—in any organization, in any industry. This groundbreaking book reveals the five “P”s of Facebook’s success:
PASSION—Keep your energy and commitment fully charged at all times by pursuing something in which you believe
PURPOSE—Don’t just create a great product; drive a meaningful movement
PEOPLE—Build powerful teams that can execute your vision
PRODUCT—Create a product that is innovative, that breaks all the rules, that changes everything
PARTNERSHIPS—Build powerful partnerships with people who fuel imagination and energize execution
Every day I work with clients – individuals, teams and organizations – who, if they were to truly look at their situations through these lenses, may see new areas for focus and improvement. As importantly, they may have the unsettling realization that the first “P” – Passion – is the one that is missing. I believe that without this, we may find mediocre success; yet we will never be our most authentic and most successful selves.
Having alignment between what we are Passionate about with what we are good at doing, and having that tied to a purpose greater than ourselves, will reveal our most powerful and aligned ways of contributing to the world. NO question about it……
Just look at Facebook!!
I have found if you have passion that energy level passes across to the entire virtual team to create the synergy needed to be creative and productive to overachieve. When you are passionate about your job it,s a great feeling like an artist creating new works of art.
I agree with Kristin. During the 150 years I have worked in the non-profit world (calaculated like “dog years” – every year feels like seven)I have come to believe in the saying that “Gifts are proportionate to the passion.” Loosely interpreted this can be a financial contribution, the output of a board member or the discretionary effort captured from an employee. As leaders we need to spend time up front building the passion in our stakeholders. Kristen – I would never have survived my transition into leadership training without your brilliant mentorship. Thank you so much!
Mark and Jim – thank you for your comments! Jim, appreciate your wonderful compliment. I was the one that grew through my association with you and your team. Loved every minute!!
